Excerpts from Fall 2000  PSR Tech

Dear PSR Tech,

I sure have enjoyed your magazine.  There is lots of great information in it.  Being a Ford salesman, the magazine makes me proud.  Every customer who purchases a Power Stroke truck from me gets to take a peek at one of your magazines and receives a copy of the subscription applications.

By talking with our #1 Diesel technicians here at the dealership, Arthur Smith, I was able to cure one of my pet peeves about my Power Stroke.  My truck is a 1999 F-350 Crew Cab.  To drain the fuel filter ever 5,000 miles, I always had to climb up on the pickup to reach it.  I mentioned this to Arthur and he informed me that the Econolines had a "fuel drain" cable mounted on them.  We ordered a cable complete with the mounting brackets for an E-150.  It mounted beautifully to my F-350.  The pull is located at the hinge of the hood on the driver's side.  It even says "fuel filter drain" on the end of the handle.  It's great and total cost was approximately $55-60.

Ya'll keep up the good work,

Eddie R. Bias

Dear PSR Tech,

I enjoy reading each issue of Power Stroke Registry.  It is very informative and it's interesting to learn of various ways to attend to minor problems concerning my F-250 Super Duty 1999 truck.  In a recent issue, one reader expressed concern on the degree of difficulty to remove a rim from the hub.  Today, while installing air bags on my rear axles, I had to use a sledgehammer to break it loose (on both wheels).  I believe I have a solution.  My hub had a lot of corrosion where the aluminum rim fits snugly.  I used a strip of emery cloth to clean the hub.  Then, I applied some of my oxide-inhibiting compound where the aluminum rim contacts the steel hub.  Electricians always use this compound before connecting aluminum wires to steel connectors.  Time will tell if this procedure works.  I feel certain it will.
