First Camless Truck reaches the Summit of Pikes Peak


Colorado Springs, Colorado - Early this morning (6/15/2000), Sturman Engine Systems drove a truck with Sturman Proprietary Camless Engine Controls to the top of Pikes Peak; making it the first of its kind. "We made it to the top and back without shutting the engine off. This is a milestone event demonstrating the durability of the technology under extremely severe conditions." said Matt Snow, mechanical technician. With an entourage of excited Sturman team members, the Sturman Camless left the gate (7,400 ft.) at 7:00 am and made it to the top (14,110 ft.) a little before 8:30 am (38 mile round trip)


Using Hydraulic Valve Actuation, Sturman Engine Systems is able to completely remove the camshaft to create an energy efficient, low emissions, Inline-6 diesel engine. Reaching the summit with this truck (a modified International Class 7) was a huge milestone in the development of this revolutionary technology, proving that it's well on its way to the top - in more ways than one.


Sturman Engine Systems, a new sponsor of the Adelphia Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, will have this historical truck with Sturman Proprietary Camless Engine Controls, on display at most of the Hill Climb Pre-Race Events.


Sturman Engine Systems is a joint venture between Sturman Industries and International Truck and Engine Corp. International is the world's largest manufacturer of mid-sized diesel engines. International announced at a recent press conference that the Sturman Camless Control Technology is planned across all International product lines by the year 2007.


Sturman Engine Systems was founded in 1995 as an offshoot of world-renowned R&D Company, Sturman Industries - both located in Woodland Park, Colorado. Sturman Engine Systems was formed for the marketing and manufacturing of this and other engine control revolutionary technology, developed by Sturman Industries, to the automotive world. Sturman Industries, founded in 1989, applies patented digital valves, originally developed by Eddie Sturman for the Apollo Space Program in the 1960's, to various applications requiring fluid control, making them more efficient in terms of energy used, speed, and precision.
